Il risultato originale descriveva un breve effetto su un compito spaziale. Le repliche e le meta-analisi non trovano alcun beneficio generale in intelligenza, e i piccoli effetti a breve termine che esistono sembrano attribuibili all'eccitazione e all'umore. [1]
Gli studi meglio progettati smentiscono questa affermazione. Essa persiste perché è intuitiva, o perché i primi risultati deboli sono stati ampiamente ripetuti prima che arrivassero lavori più solidi.
