O que as evidências realmente mostram
A descoberta original descreveu um breve efeito em uma tarefa espacial. Replicações e meta-análises não encontram benefício geral em inteligência, e os pequenos efeitos de curto prazo que existem parecem ser atribuíveis à excitação e ao humor. [1]
Os estudos melhor projetados apontam para longe dessa afirmação. Ela sobrevive porque é intuitiva, ou porque descobertas iniciais fracas foram amplamente repetidas antes que trabalhos mais robustos chegassem.
